Skyscrapers
So far, no skyscrapers here...

177m

Tallest Building
Located on top of Virgem Mount, one of the highest spots in Porto, stands the Altice Tower - a 177 metre building. Because we're in a coastal city, its height at sea level has relevance. Its peak is located 393 metres above the sea level, and can be seen from any point of Greater Porto, if nothing obstructs the sight (stands taller than Eiffeil Tower or Empire State Building, relative to the city lower districts). It is, for this reason, the only structure in Portugal that really looks like a real skyscraper, even if technically it' s not.

1 524

High-rises
Although Porto doesn't have a single skyscraper, it gains some grandeur by the high-rises scattered a bit everywhere, mixed with low-rises and houses that spread over a very large physical area. This "irregularity", when seen from higher points - especially at night - acquires a remarkable urban beauty. A distinctive big city feel that translates in the image of a true metropolis!

1.66 Million m2
dedicated to commercial areas
The sum of all the Gross Leasable Area of every shopping center, department store, megastore and street store. As a point of reference, Aliados Avenue is 32,000m2 wide. If we would combine all the commercial area into one store, that store would be 50 times larger than Aliados Avenue (or 224 times larger than a full scale pro soccer field).
1.82 Million m2
dedicated to

offices

For the first time in History, in 2018, Porto's office area surpassed its own commercial area. Also of note is its annual growth - around 50 thousand m2 and increasing every year.

For some reference, Madrid has 4.40 million square meters of offices. Porto has 41.36% of that. Not bad, compared to the largest financial hub of the Iberian Peninsula. Porto is, today, a very respectable financial hub at a global scale.

2.4 Million m2

Area within the Perimeter of Leixões International Seaport
A figure that puts Leixões as a major seaport of Europe.

2.5 Million m2

Area within the Perimeter of Petrogal Oil Refinery

3 Million m2

Area within the Perimeter of Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport

21.3 km2

dedicated to Industrial Areas
The total area of all Greater Porto Industrial Areas, including any street or parking within their respective perimeters. Thousands and thousands of pavilions make up what is one of the most industrialized areas in Europe, and which are a significant source of wealth for Portugal. Some important portuguese cities such as Évora, Leiria or Viseu would fit, entirely, in this areas.
